In January 2020, one of the biggest changes for many years to hit the industry will come into effect when the maximum sulphur content of fuel for use onboard is lowered to 0.5%. The only exception to this rule will be for ships fitted with approved Exhaust Gas Cleaning (EGC) systems. Whilst this is good news for the environment, it brings some challenges for those using these new low sulphur fuels.
