ECDIS Type Specific Training

The course has been designed for candidates who have completed ECDIS generic training and now require equipment specific training. It has been designed for officers in charge of a navigational watch, for experienced officers and other persons with navigational responsibilities.

Course Content:
This equipment specific training will concentrate on the functionality and effective use of the system onboard.
The training will cover the following areas:

  • Familiarisation with available functions.
  • Familiarisation with the menu structure.
  • Display setup.
  • The setting of safety values.
  • Recognition of alarms and malfunction indicators and the actions to be taken.
  • Route planning.
  • Route monitoring.
  • Changing over the backup systems.
  • Loading charges and licenses.
  • Updating of software.

 

Onboard ECDIS Type Specific

The course has been designed for candidates who have completed ECDIS generic training and now require onboard familiarisation training on their installed equipment. It has been designed for officers in charge of a navigational watch, for experienced officers and other persons with navigational responsibilities.

Teaching Methods

The course is conducted on the vessel’s ECDIS terminal. The course consists of a series of familiarisation exercises, where the instructor demonstrates and guides where necessary. Where knowledge of the ECDIS exists already, the exercises test user knowledge to a high degree. An assessment is conducted on completion of the exercises to test the knowledge gained. A certificate is issued on completion of the course stating that familiarisation training has been conducted on the specified ECDIS make and model. In summary, the course consists of the following:
